Yarn Bomb Colorado Springs
"Yarn Bomb Colorado Springs" is an umbrella title of a grant project I'm currently working on which will create yarn bombs with or for four local organizations.
During summer 2012, three yarn bombs were created under the "Yarn Bomb Colorado Springs" banner. (See "Celebrating International Yarn Bomb Day", "BAC", and "Geek Squad Beetle Bomb" below.) The goal of this new project is to expose more of the community to the fun and beauty of yarn bombs.
If you, your organization, civic group, church, neighborhood, etc. would like more information about these projects, yarn bombs in general, and their place in our community, please get in touch.

What If Festival--Yarn Bomb #2
With the help of dozens of people we constructed this yarn bomb with a simple yarn wrapping pattern.
The building manager is allowing it to stay up for 1 week, so it will be coming down the weekend of Sept. 22, 2012.

What If Festival--Yarn Bomb #1
The Pioneer's Museum and the What If Festival offered us this construction fencing to beautify for the festival. We utilized a lot of material that was donated last year for the Geed Squad car and put the yarn bombs up on September 14, the evening before the What If Festival.

This is the Festival's third year and my third yarn bomb at the Festival.

BAC* Banister Beautification
Location: The Business of Arts Center (*BAC), 513 Manitou Ave., Manitou Springs, CO
Their director contacted me shortly after we announced the Acacia Park "Tree Cozies" project and asked if we could do something on their property. Since the "tree cozies" are coming down after two weeks I reworked the color concept to fit their space. Once we've taken the "tree cozies" apart they'll be reworked into "banister beautifiers". Additional striped and multicolor pieces will be worked into trees at the site as well.
Reassembly of the pieces and installation took place on August 22 and 23 with the help of Karen, Deb, Anne, and Dana.

Celebrating International Yarn Bomb Day
June 11-25, 2011
Location: Acacia Park, Colorado Springs, CO
An article about the installation and the project in the Colorado Springs Gazette.
The Colorado Springs Independent ran a photo taken during the installation (6/30/11)
Project Concept
A group of local fiber artists (people who knit and/or crochet) will be placing "tree cozies" on some of the trees on the north-east side of Acacia Park. These "tree cozies" will be created from fabric sections knitted or crocheted from yarn and wrap completely around the trees.
Technically this form of art is "Yarn Bombing" or "Knitted Graffiti". This emerging art form is defined as "the activity of covering things in public spaces (e.g. lampposts, trees, statues etc) with knitted materials. The idea of yarn bombing or graffiti knitting originates from the US, where knitters decided to find new and creative ways of using leftover material."
The "cozies" were wrapped and stitched onto the trees on June 11 to celebrate "International Yarn Bomb Day" and removed two weeks later on June 25.
To get involved in future projects or to get more information on the "tree cozies", contact Juanita at [email protected].
